• Multi-User Graph Editing in Three Dimensions

  This was my M.Sc. thesis work. I designed and implemented a graph editor in DIVE, the virtual reality environment being developed at SICS, the Swedish Institute of Computer Science.
  
  Using the editor, several people spread out over the world could work together in the virtual reality to construct complex graphs. I presented the paper and the editor at the MultiG workshop.

  This was the first edition of my HTML book. Apart from describing HTML as it existed back then (this was before there was an official standard), it contained sections that feel archaic these days, for example explaining what the Internet was and advice on what modem to buy. Glued to the inside of the front cover was a small envelope with a diskette containg useful helper programs like a text editor and an image editor.
  
  The book was very successful and was even translated into Finnish by Reijo Lundahl ("HTML-ohjelmointi", ISBN 9516440606).

  Another year, another edition of the book. At this time, the First Browser War was raging. Netscape and Microsoft were racing to invent new tags while the standards organizations were trying to keep the web accessible for everyone.

  The fourth edition of the book got a new title, since it now covered XHTML as well. At this time, HTML was starting to settle down so there was no longer a need to publish a new edition of the book every year to keep up.

  In the fifth edition we finally dropped "Internet" from the name of the book, so now it was simply called "The HTML Book". This turned out to be a bit problematic. Just for fun I asked for the book in one of Stockholms largest computer book stores, and the sales person looked condescendingly at me and said "you know, there are MANY books on HTML"...

  The sixth edition of the book features CSS, as indicated by the title. It also features a couple of more advanced chapters at the end, describing how bigger web sites with databases, Java web applications and so on work. There is also a section describing AJAX in detail, so readers can use the feature straight from JavaScript instead of using frameworks and other layers in between.

  The latest edition was published at the end of 2011. It covers all of HTML5 (using the latest drafts of the standard available) and many parts of CSS 3. The first printing (2000 copies) was sold out and a second printing was made in 2012.
  
  The book continues to sell well and reached number six on Bokus' list of best selling IT books in january 2013.
